Masterson Method Certified Practitioner
Gentle and effective bodywork that works with the horse to help them release tension around key junctions of the body that most affect comfort and performance. My whole horse approach encompasses hoof balance, movement patterns, posture and saddle fit.
Masterson Method Bodywork is a hands-on therapy that helps the horse to release accumulated tension. The key with Masterson Method is that it is gentle and non-invasive, the practitioner uses the subtle responses of the horse to find areas of tension and help the horse to let go, the results are visible as the horse releases.
Masterson Method comprises of two basic categories of techniques: light-touch techniques that bring the horse’s awareness to where he is holding tension, allowing him to release, and techniques that release tension through range of motion in a relaxed state.
Releasing tension in the muscles and restoring flexibility and range of motion to the skeleton work together. Relieving tension in the major muscles that control a joint allows the joint to operate more freely. Simply asking for movement of a limb or body part in a relaxed state can release even more tension in the muscles and soft tissue that control that area of the body.
Bodywork can benefit all horses:
Helping performance horses to reach their best, in all disaplines, from dressage and show jumping to endurance or trekking
The “everyday” pleasure horse, who turns their hand to any discipline
Young, growing horses
Maintaining older horses
Horses recovering from any type of injury, lameness, fall, slip, saddle issues etc
Bodywork is most effective when included as a regular part of your horse’s care regime. Our horses work hard, and tension patterns can accumulate from natural asymmetries (both the horse’s own asymmetries and ours), slips, trips, bumps in the paddock, travelling, training techniques, hoof balance and so much more. Regular bodywork can help to keep your horse moving well, and identify small issues before they become big.
Working on horses where I do both their hoofcare and bodywork is where I can be most effective, especially in rehab cases. The balance of the hooves has great influence over the comfort and function of the horse’s whole body, and likewise the biomechanics of the horse’s body influence how the horse’s hooves grow - working on both is the key to making significant changes.
