TB Mare - Invasive Seedy Toe

This TB mare in her late teens presented with significant, invasive seedy toe in both front feet, and a medio-lateral imbalance caused by the collapse of her hoof capsule due to the seedy toe infection.

Xrays showed that her pedal bones were still in good condition, and she didn’t have any significant bony changes, giving us a much better outlook for rehab. We chose to use a composite shoe and cast package, which meant that i could remove all the infected hoof, and then replace it with composite materials to provide structure and comfort, while holding in treatment while we grew in healtheir hoof.

Six months of monthly shoeings later the damaged hoof is mostly grown out and we have a straighter more balanced hoof capsule. The mare was able to go comfortably barefoot and we continue with 4 weekly trims and management.
